Equality, Inclusion and Diversity within UKMi

UKMi is committed to fostering a professional community where every member feels valued, respected and able to contribute.

We believe that diversity of thought, background and experience strengthens our profession – and that inclusion and belonging must be actively championed on an ongoing basis.

We aim to ensure equity, inclusion and belonging are embedded across all aspects of our work – from how we engage, collaborate and lead, to our online outputs and training and development events.

We will:

• Value, respect and draw on the diverse experiences, backgrounds, skills, identities and perspectives of all our members and the healthcare professional colleagues, patients, and the wider public we serve.
• Promote a culture of fairness and respect, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.
• Ensure our governance, communications, educational programmes and decision-making processes are inclusive, accessible and transparent.
• Acknowledge that we are a UK-wide organisation by recognising, sharing and learning from differences in healthcare delivery across the UK.
• Provide equitable access to opportunities for members to contribute to, and work with UKMi, recognising and addressing barriers to participation wherever possible.
• Continuously review, strengthen and communicate our commitment to inclusion, diversity and wellbeing across all aspects of our work.

We will listen, learn and adapt to ensure UKMi remains a welcoming, supportive and empowering organisation where every member feels valued and part of the wider UKMi family.

Our current priorities are to:

• Create a culture of belonging across our membership, including those from different professional backgrounds, sole practitioners and specialist areas.
• Promote and champion the wide range of roles within Medicines Information/Advice including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, information scientists, medical writers and administrators.
• Champion inclusive, representative leadership within UKMi and our working groups and encourage diverse voices to be involved in shaping our work.
• Ensure membership of our working groups reflects our membership and is inclusive and open to all.
• Ensure our outputs are accessible, including our online guidance and educational and development opportunities. Consider different training needs and learning preferences.

We align our work with the Royal College of Pharmacy’s inclusion and diversity strategy and remain committed to building a profession where all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, other MI practitioners and teams feel seen, heard and supported.
